Excellence has a cost

EXCELLENCE HAS A COST

“Solomon also built a place for himself, and it took him 13 years to complete the construction” (1 Kings 7:1 NIV).

He first built a temple for God, and then he built a house for himself. All this took him 13 years to complete. Do you know why it took him such a long time? Because the things of excellence don’t happen overnight they take time and effort.
Very often, we get discouraged with time because we get tired of waiting on the Lord. We become impatient, which causes our faith to diminish and it stops us from accomplishing our dreams. However, we cannot let the giant of discouragement or of impatience steal the blessings of God and stop us from going above and beyond in our lives. Excellence has a cost therefore we must understand some biblical truths that will help us persist and fulfill what God has asked of us and that might be costing us time.

Let’s view the following points:

1. Excellence takes time
Someone estimated that it takes 10,000 hours for someone to finally become excellent at what they do, but only God knows how much time it will take us to become excellent in what we do. Nevertheless, what matters is not time in itself but rather how we use the time that God has given us to be able to reach excellence.

The moment we learn to take advantage of every opportunity we have to be excellent at what we do, that is when we become experts at managing our time to the fullest.

“Live wisely in the middle of people who do not believe in Christ and take advantage of every opportunity” (Colossians 4:5 NIV).

2. Things of excellence require dedication.
Someone once said, “Don’t bite of more than you can chew”. You can’t be distracted by secondary things if you want to accomplish something significant. You can’t give in to the temptation of cheating or making shortcuts if you truly want to finish something with excellence.

You can’t give in to carnal temptations even though they are common to all human beings. If you don’t want to be an ordinary person, then you will have to be dedicated in what you do and ignore the temporary pleasures in order to achieve what is eternal.

3. Things of excellence require perseverance and commitment.
Unless you are committed to something you won’t be able to resist the temptation of giving up when things get bad in marriage, in your business, in your studies or in the ministry. Your commitment will keep you persevering until finishing the race of life.

Think about it:

What project or dream is costing you time?
How are you using your time?
